John, I am just venting. It has been so relentless lately. Thanks.
I don’t like the captcha thingie because I myself am handicapped (bad eye sight and deaf in one ear). And yes, Akismet does a great job. It caught over 50,000 spams in the last two months – only about 200 of them were sort of not spam (comments that I know were spam but sort of fit the topic). There are still about 700 comments in my unapproved folder that I have yet to look at – they probably will never see the light of day.
I doubt that post will help at all. I do find that akismet does a good job of eliminating a huge amount of spam. Bad behavior is another good wordpress plugin to help reduce the comment spam. And make sure you make the spam comments as spam in the admin system (that helps identify the spammers and remove them for you and everyone else using akismet).
Using some kind of captcha can help a bit too – though I know some people don’t like them.
