Earlier today, about 30 same sex couples held public civil union ceremonies under the law that took effect yesterday. Unfortunately, I was not able to make it to take pictures of the couples, as I was still printing stuff for the Chicago Photography Collective exhibit entitled “One Roof, Different Worlds,” that opened earlier today. I arrived at Millennium Park where the ceremonies were held, at about a quarter past 11 am when things were already winding down. I didn’t even see any photographers, photographing.
But at least I got to take pictures of the rose petal strewn about on the pavement … and the few people who were protesting against the law, and luckily, someone videotaping.
And, a fellow member of the Chicago Photography Collective, my good friend Matt T. was there to take pictures of the couples, two of which he sent to me:
