Photographing Minnehaha

I am currently on a road trip in Minnesota. First stop was Minneapolis, a vibrant, modern city 1/6 of which is composed of parks and other green spaces. The city planners way back when decided that each resident of the city should be no more than two blocks away from a park. This one was [...]
Leaving on a jetplane

All my bags are packed, I am ready to go, I am standing here … but I need to take more photographs of this fabulous city!
Macro garden photography

He just couldn’t resist photographing the beautiful tulips close up … he even climbed up the flower box! Seen from the bus the other day.
I do this myself too …

Being on the bus going to work is the perfect time to do chimping and reviewing what’s inside your camera … I do this myself too.
Busker season again

Street performers are out in full force … and so are photographers and … chimpers
iPad release

The scene at the Apple store on Michigan Ave. in the afternoon today. The line that was there in the morning basically petered out but there were still people gathering, taking pictures of the first day of sale of the iPad. First in line was a 25 year-old Chicago resident who had been camping out [...]
Music Video

Seen from the bus the other day while I was going to work… the kids at the back were shooting a music video on Michigan Ave.
Shopping and photographing … what more can you ask for?!

Don’t they know that it is still verrrry cold in Chicago? Apparently not.
Remember to give this holiday season

… and give generously to those less fortunate than you … Photo of a family in front of the Salvation Army Christmas Tree at the John Hancock Center in Chicago. Taken from the bus with my iPhone.
Chicago 2009

Participants and friends and families checking (and posing in front of) the results of the Chicago Marathon 2009 at the Nike’s store on Michigan Ave. Took this from the bus about two weeks ago.
Angels on the boulevard

Victoria Secret recently moved to a new location on N. Michigan Ave. (Magnificent Mile) in Chicago, just a block and a half south of its original site. To commemorate their opening last week, on October 22, they exhibited street art – of angel wings on the Magnificent Mile – in front of which people could [...]
Bus photography

I was working on my crossword puzzle as I always do on the bus going home from work yesterday … when I saw the woman on the seat in front of me started taking pictures of the scenery outside. So I took out my camera from my briefcase and shot her hands holding her camera. [...]
Under the trees …

It was a beautiful spring day yesterday … there were tons of people walking about. Like these two who were under the trees, taking pictures of the Chicago skyline from Grant Park. I was on a car, on Lake Shore Drive. I just can’t resists.
Walkabouts

I had to work again yesterday, but it was no big deal as it was a fun type of work – we conducted an energy conservation workshop at the Erie Neighborhood House in Chicago’s west side after which I had to attend (as a participant) another workshop on environmental news writing. i was supposed to [...]
Crouching

After my photostroll last Saturday, I decided to take the bus (instead of the train) … and while on the bus, I saw a photographer alone on the lake front. He’s there somewhere, crouching on the pier. I had my fish eye lens on the camera … so he seemed so …. small.
Not Quick Enough

I began using my 28-300mm lens again so I don’t have to carry any other lenses. But this particular lens is not quick enough focusing … so when I am in a moving vehicle and I see somebody photographing, I always get blurred images using this lens. Now I remember why I don’t use this [...]
Fashionistas

Fashion plates looking for something to photograph early yesterday morning. Taken from the bus on Chicago’s Magnificent Mile (N. Michigan Ave.) on my way to work yesterday. Actually, the one with the camera just finished taking a picture of the building – I saw them while my bus was on a stop unloading passengers – [...]
Saturday in the Park

At the south end of Grant Park … yesterday. Some kind of photo shoot was going on near the Agora installation on Michigan and Roosevelt. I was on a car so I was not able to look that much except to raise my camera and click.
The Fire Hydrants

I was on the look out for an appropriate scene for an entry to the ‘Ruby Tuesday’ meme for last Tuesday when I saw this tableau while I was on the bus going home from work on Monday. This didn’t quite make it as my entry (I thought the fire hydrants are not red enough) [...]
Dress Forms

First, it was ‘Cows on Parade (SM)” back in 1999 – cows painted by Chicago artists and then whimsically strewn along Michigan Ave. and other street areas. Then furnitures in 2000 … then … a smattering of other items turned into public art exhibits along the Magnificent Mile and also along the lakefront. I could [...]
Something Happening at the Nike Store

I just couldn’t figure it out, but there were a lot of people at the Nike store on Michigan Ave. yesterday.
Street Performer

This sax player is a mainstay in the street performer scene of Chicago. He’s good but I haven’t really heard him play a complete tune. Saw him from the bus on my way home yesterday. Oh, and I included a photographer too. I wonder why.
