… copied all over the world. Photos courtesy of my townmate, Facebook friend and terrific photographer Ninster Iguis Asayas. He is a graphic artist based in Manila.
Kowtowing with the Pols

The Governor of Illinois, Pat Quinn
Last January 31, the Governor of Illinois, Pat Quinn, signed the historic bill granting rights to domestic partners (both same sex and opposite sex couples), the same rights as married couples in the State of Illinois.
I can’t believe it has been 5 years …
… since I have taken these pictures at the Chicago AIDS Foundation benefit, back in 2005. The guest entertainers were … The Pointer Sisters!
Chicago Journalists Association
In early October, the Chicago Journalists Association honored Euna Lee, one of the Korean-American journalists who was jailed in North Korea after crossing the border from China without a visa. President Bill Clinton eventually went to N. Korea to secure their release. The Association also awarded scholarship money to Julia Mae Belando, daughter of Alejandro [...]
The Bangles Unplugged
At the concert of the all-female American band, Bangles … they were very popular in the 1980s with songs like Manic Monday, Walk Like an Egyptian etc. These pictures were taken with my iPhone. I was fortunate to be right there near the stage.
The Guv
The Governor of Illinois, Gov. Pat Quinn, delivering his speech at the AIDS Foundation of Chicago 25th Anniversary Gala last night. And here he is with some friends of mine …
Kevin Nadal, a Filipino-American author and comedian
Chimping at the meet and greet with Kevin Nadal at the Columbia College Chicago Plymouth Ct. dorm sometime last month. Kevin Nadal performing Kevin Leo Yabut Nadal, Ph.D., is a professor, psychologist, performer, activist, and author, who received his doctorate in counseling psychology from Columbia University in 2008. As an assistant professor of mental health [...]
Brian Urlacher Sighting
Was going around Chicago with my niece who is on her vacation from Manila, when we saw a film shoot at Pioneer Court near the Tribune Building on Michigan Ave. It turned out it was a shoot for a Comcast ad with Brian Urlacher, the Chicago Bear linebacker who was 2005 Defensive Player of the [...]
Filipino Heart Throb
Dinner was interrupted by fans requesting to be photographed with Filipino TV and movie heart throb, Cogie Domingo at a restaurant in San Francisco’s Fisherman’s Wharf. This was my main reason for travel (not to take pictures of Filipino heart throbs …) but to pick up my niece in San Francisco. She was travelling with [...]
They’re So Rapt …
At whatever it was they were looking at … and they seemed to be very interested on it, photographically. Hope their photographs turned out well. That’s actually Bryan Peterson, author of Understanding Exposure and other books and owner of Perfect Picture School of Photography on the right.
Sicko
Michael Moore was in Chicago last Thursday (June 21) to speak at a rally to promote his movie, Sicko, and to advance the cause for universal health care. Other luminaries speaking at the rally were Dr. Quentin Young and Studs Terkel. Added June 26: I saw the advanced screening of the movie … and it [...]
New Year Photography
So now I have waken up from the haze of the New Year’s celebration … and am able to post this photographic duet at the New Year’s party I usually go to. It’s a tradition. And as usual, the interest is photographing: L-R: Chicago’s political luminary, Don Rose, best selling authors and distinguished American historians [...]
Cyndi @ 600mm
Cyndi Lauper at yesterday’s Gay Games VII Closing Ceremonies at Chicago’s Wrigley Field, taken at 600mm focal length, hand held.
New Year’s Eve
This one’s from Marc P. who sent this photo attachment with a note, “OK here’s Studs and y’all – NYEve.” Basically the opposite of this posting which actually has Marc P. in it. That’s author Studs Terkel (with the red scarf) at the bottom center and Chicago Sun Times columnist, Laura Washington (in red blouse). [...]
New Year Count Down
At a private party New Year’s Eve into the New Year … Oh, I had a huge celebrity sighting during this party: That’s Pulitzer Prize winner (1985 for the Good War) author Studs Terkel (in red scarf), historian, broadcaster, sociologist and self-described guerilla journalist with a tape recorder, 93 and still roaring.
Chaka Khan, Chaka Khan, Chaka Khan
Another blast from the past, this time, Chaka Khan’s 2000 (I think) concert at the Chicago’s AIDS Foundation annual benefit. Here’s a couple more during the concert: And an after concert photo op with Chaka and my friends: Chaka Khan, btw, is Chicago-born. Sweet!
You’ve Gotta Believe
It’s too dreary and cold to photograph photographers outside today. So I thought I would upload more pictures from the Chicago White Sox support rally from a few weeks ago, especially now that the White Sox are in the World Series. You gotta believe. Here’s more: One of the local anchor celebrities interviewing a rally [...]
Girls Just Wanna Have Fun
Cyndi Lauper in concert, 4-27-2001, AIDS Foundation Chicago Benefit … looong time ago. But this photographer photographing photographers was already in existence then albeit with a low resolution digital camera. Again, from my archives. Just trying to show a 1980′s icon who was very much a part of the music I grew up listening to. [...]
Some Hollywood Actor?
I really thought he was some Hollywood actor, James Spader perhaps? But probably not. But I did see him talking to this Hollywood actor earlier … That’s Mario Cantone who played Anthony Marentino in Sex in the City, seen today at Chicago’s Millennium Park.
Eccentric
We have many eccentrics roaming the streets of Chicago. This one is new, I think (I never seen him/her before) and his/her message doesn’t make any sense to me at all. The first time I saw this eccentric when I was approaching the intersection of Chicago and Michigan, I took a snap shot and guess [...]
